1812 Overture

1812 Overture

Yesterday I worked on this painting. I tried new paint and some new ways of producing the finished work. I am not at all sure about the finished artwork at all but it was fun doing it . I will probably try it again.

I used fluid acrylic paint. I also included some Japanese paper to create texture. Included was also some aluminium foil and have body modelling paste.

I had real difficulty getting the paint to adhere to the foil but have learned why that was so. So this painting may well be a little new adventure for me in the process of abstract art.

So there you are even at my age the learning goes on, and life is still an adventure.

I would be interested in any comments about this because reality is this. It is no good painting them if I am the only person who likes them.

Please note this painting is posted on both blogs but on each posted a different way. Now which one is it that is upside down I wonder?

  1. There is such a richness of depth and color here, Ralph. I love the texture as well!

  2. Yes ... I like it too. The circular theme is interesting - especially the rows of pebble shapes and the way the fluid paint has settled into the texture gives that wonderful shaded effect. The simple colour scheme works well.

  3. Not too sure about this one, very vibrant and I can see so many different things in it - a snake and mouse for example. But can also see effervescent bubbles and sunshine. Is it just me???

  4. I really like this one Ralph although I think I like it upside down as you posted it on your other blog. It seems to have more movement that way. I tend to like things that are weighted stronger on the left side. That could be because I'm left handed or maybe because we read from left to right. I don't know but it just seems like a stronger composition that way. I also like the texture a lot.

  5. The creation of this piece was fun and exciting. What more can you ask. It's all about process, but you certainly have a vibrant, exciting painting as well. Paint on! I love it. It's my kind of piece, never boring. I've looked at it from all directions, and it works everytime.

  6. I love it, Ralph! I worked on an abstract today also, that started out as one thing, and became another! I wish I was as good at abstracts as you are.
