At The Going Down of the Sun
Last week I decided I could not pretend any longer. I decided to have a try at something I had not done for a long time. In truth I was trying to break out of the normal abstract mindset I seemed to have been caught up in.
SO I painted this seascape. Now please do not say it is good. It is not terrible enough for me to bin but it does have its little corners that could so easily have been better. It was different for me and that was enjoyable. I had to take my time concentrate on my subject and paint something that was recognisable as a place. It was a good exercise for me and I share with you the finished work.
It has not stopped me from painting, or desiring to paint abstract but it has got me back into the paint room. Yesterday I ventured forth again and experimented with mixing poetry with art. I am not sure as yet if I will show it here but I am happy that I have managed something I did not know how to do before. More importantly I am back and painting again.
I look forward to now finding time to make comment again on the blogs of my many friends.

This painting is more than 'good' anyway, it is awesome! I would give anything to be able to paint a sky like that! You always have the nicest blending of colors in your work. The way the colors in the sky reflect on the water makes it such an inviting scene, with the little boat sitting quietly there in the midst of all that radiance above and tranquil waters below. I would love to have one of your seascapes on my wall!
ReplyDeleteDespite your admonitions, Ralph, I do think this is good. The skies are so heavenly (From the rising of the sun, to the going down of the same...) and I love any and all compositions featuring the sea. Just so lovely and if it broke a clog for you, all the better!
ReplyDeleteSometimes we all need a "change". I've always worked with pastels which I absolutely love and now I did my first oil painting which I never thought I would do and love it.! Love this painting, Ralph ..the sky is amazing with all those beautiful colors.
ReplyDeleteWhy can't I say it's good? I really like it! Seascapes are one of my favourite subjects and this one is full of atmosphere! I like the colours of the sky reflecting in the water and I love the boat!! I am very sorry that I like it, but I really do - and I promise I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it. :0)
