Millport

Millport

I was asked to do a painting of a place I had never been to, Millport.

I learned a great deal from this experience. The first thing I learned was that in spite of all the walking I do there are still little hidden gems of my land , Scotland  I have yet to discover.

As an artist who paints from the heart, more about the atmosphere and the feeling of a place than the reality of the place, this was a real challenge. I spent ages looking a pictures of Millport trying so hard to get a feel for the place.

I learned that here was a place I so desperately need to visit.

I took all the picture I had seen and let them sink into my inner being. This is what I painted.

I have been shocked to discover that the person who asked me to paint it wants to own it. But more than that I have had more than four other people from all over the world wanting to purchase it from  me.

In the light of my other blog that is linked to this one this is a joy and an uplift. Why Do I Care

A Feather on the Beach

A Feather on the Beach

Yes I posted a very similar painting to this one the other day with a poem. I put this one on today with no poem. Why?  Because I decided that I would like the challenge of trying again to paint a watercolour. This one was one that I had painted before and it seems that many people had enjoyed it.

The question for me was simple, could I do it again. I made some slight changes. I feel that I have at least done two things in the last few days. I have produced a work of art and I have got back into my running shoes.

Somebody told me that when you found a feather on the beach it meant that somebody was thinking of you. I find many feathers on the beaches where I walk. I hope the thoughts people are having are good ones.

I am not 100% happy with this work and feel I will try once again but I leave it with you. The previous one was two blogs ago if you wish to compare.

Rain Along the Coastal Path.

Rain Along The Coastal Path.

I chose this painting on my other blog because at first reading it was a very sad story and I suppose for most of us a rainy day on a walk is a sad day also. The thing about this painting though and the story of the other blog is that things are not always as they at first seem.

This painting tries to capture the atmosphere of that day. I was so glad to be running along the coastal path because the light and the atmosphere had a sense of magic. I held that in my mind and produced two large paintings and two small ones.

One of the large ones was purchased almost instantly by a person who lives on the coast the other was claimed by my son for his new house.

The two small ones well sadly nobody seems to want to purchase at present and they hang in the local inn. They have been on my website for some time and still they are not sold.

Today I am showing you the small unsold ones on the other Blog and here the first of the large ones who knows maybe I will use the other large one another time.

All paintings were painted in acrylic and painted in one of my frenetic moods two one day and two the next while I remembered the mood and the atmosphere. I remember at the time listening to Mendelssohn’s, “Fingals Cave “ having visited there often it seemed so right for the mood.

I am beginning to feel that maybe the weekend is not a good time to be posting on the blog. I am aware that fewer people read blogs over the weekend understandably. Any comments you have on that I would be grateful.

Coming Home To Roost

Coming Home To Roost

There seemed no other painting I could choose  to add to today’s story of Fingers. The title says it all. He had decided to travel a road that in the end was always going to end with him meeting somebody just like me in a prison cell. If make wrong choices then we have to face the consequences of the choices we have made.

Choices are like pebbles cast into a pond, they send out ripples that go on and on.

This painting was a very large painting. I hung it in one of the inns. I hung there for some time and nobody said anything to me. I decided to replace it with another painting. It was then I was told the story of the customer who every night before heading home used to say like the birds in Ralphs painting I am going home to roost. I was told he was disappointed I had taken it away.

It lay around for a bit until I had almost forgotten it. Came the day I decided I would paint over it and got it set up on my easel. Before beginning I came upstairs to collect something and decided to check my emails. There before me on the screen were two emails each making enquiries from my website about a possible purchase. I contacted each in turn in the order they had mailed me.

The painting was sold the next day and two days later made its way down to England.

It was painted in acrylic on a very large canvas.

I notice this morning I now have 50 followers on this blog. Nowhere near the 100 of Kim or the numbers on other blogs I read but I am humbled so many of you take the time and I thank you once again.

Autumnal Abstract.

This painting was one of my first moves towards texture and form. This is an example of order out of chaos. I began this canvas hoping to paint a sky and then progress to a seascape. I enjoy painitng the sea being lucky enough to live close to it. I had made some lines across the canvas trying to decide where to put the skyline. Once the sky was painted I left it to dry. I was visited by my son who on seeing it commented that he was impressed I was trying something modern. He wondered what colours I was going to add between the lines.

Having slept on this whith his words in my mind I awoke and completed this painting as you see it. MY daughter had just moved house and she wanted this painting to hang in her reading room, where it hangs even now.

This painting is used on my other blog with the article called the, "Hairdressers Comb." seen at :-The Hairdressers Comb
