Autumn

Autumnal Hedgerow.

This painting was done after one of my walks along the coastal path. As I walked I caught sight of the plants in their autumn colours at the side of the hedgerow. I came home and painted two such paintings.

I really did enjoy painting them. I used thick acrylic paint and most of it was done using my fingers. The other one sold this one I brought home yesterday from one of the places where I hang paintings.

I am aware that autumn is almost over here and that it was a year ago I painted this and I still have it.

In the course of the year it has now hung in two places, maybe I have to accept that it is not right. There is something about it that makes it a painting nobody wants.

I just wish I could put my finger on what it was because as I have said already I like it.

The Beauty of Autumn

The Beauty of Autumn

I walked yesterday along one of my favourite places, the coastal path. It has been the inspiration of many of my artworks and I have no doubt will continue to be so in the future. I did not take many pictures but I would like to share just one or two with you today.

Beech trees along the part of the path that has rightly been called Beech Avenue.

I could not resist this marvellous grass which sttod tall and proud and the white in contrast to the colours of autumn around me.

This I think speaks for itself.

Another of Beech Avenue this I think is screaming out to be painted.

Autumn Watercolour

Autumn Waterclour

I said I would have a go at painting using watercolour. I spent Tuesday looking out my brushes and what watercolour materials I had. Yesterday I had a try at a little autumn scene. Well truth to be told I had three tries at it and this was the third of them. It is not by any means a watercolour like all the ones on the blogs of those I follow who inspired me to have a go. Will I try again? Yes I think I will maybe I will take them with me when I go away in my new caravan. Maybe practice will make me better at it I am sure Susan would tell me this so practice I will.

I found it very difficult. The waiting between the washes gets to me. I need to discover how to get as involved as I do when using texture and acrylic and my fingers. The discipline I am sure will be good for me. I will also not have a room full of canvas painted and stacked waiting to decide what to do with them.

This was a small painting about 6”x9” so did not take up much space. The other two were discarded into my bin and took up no room at all. This one was destined to go the same way but Ruby insisted on seeing it and said I should not. How about giving it to the first person you meet was her suggestion. Well that sounded an ok idea and would also I am sure fit in with Kim's lovely gesture on her blog.

Yesterday afternoon I went to hang the painting I did the other day there, Summer Showers. There was a lovely older couple sitting at the table next to where I was going to hang. They were having a meal but spoke to me commenting on my other paintings. They thought they could identify the part of the coastal path I had painted one of my other works. They were so nice I thought they were the ones who I would give it to. I explained it was a new thing for me. The seemed delighted.

I stuck it on the other blog because it speaks about new beginnings and choices. This was maybe a new start for me. Who knows what tomorrow may bring today I am heading back to the texture I think.

Autumnal Abstract.

This painting was one of my first moves towards texture and form. This is an example of order out of chaos. I began this canvas hoping to paint a sky and then progress to a seascape. I enjoy painitng the sea being lucky enough to live close to it. I had made some lines across the canvas trying to decide where to put the skyline. Once the sky was painted I left it to dry. I was visited by my son who on seeing it commented that he was impressed I was trying something modern. He wondered what colours I was going to add between the lines.

Having slept on this whith his words in my mind I awoke and completed this painting as you see it. MY daughter had just moved house and she wanted this painting to hang in her reading room, where it hangs even now.

This painting is used on my other blog with the article called the, "Hairdressers Comb." seen at :-The Hairdressers Comb
