The Warrior Watches.

The Warrior Watches

I said I would not inflict you with all of these painting and yet I find myself doing just that. This I think, I hope, is the last of the series of Warrior paintings.

Yes this one is very similar to the one I showed on my last post, but it has a number of differences. This one please note has no shield just his spear. It is also much smaller that the last one painted on a canvas board it is framed and behind glass at only 16" x 20" so much much smaller.

The warrior watches, what for the coming of the enemy or is he at peace and looking for his wife, lover or friends. No battle shield so not war but peace. ye he has his spear but that may just be for his own safety.

I have also added to the bottom the only other one I have not shared. Very very similar to the warrior waits but this one is painted over three box canvas.

The last of the warrior series. I have amazed myself in painting these, being a confirmed pacifist I have given this series much thought in the painting and have learned much myself.

Dave

Dave

Having found pencils and gone through what has been a very interesting and exciting week of learning. Thanks to all who have given so much this week. I thought I would return to try another drawing of a person.

Dave visited our village a couple of weeks ago and I had the pleasure of meeting him. He asked me, before he left if I would attempt a drawing of him. I took a little picture of him on my cell phone.

I have made a start. Now I realise I only have his address no phone number or email. So I will have to write him and ask if he can look on my website. I have posted it there and now here. If he thinks it is a fair capture I will finish it.

By then I will have returned home from my mountains.

During my time away I am going to visit the Derwent Pencil Factory and see what they have on offer for drawing. I feel like a child in a sweet shop.

Never thought I would see the day I was getting excited about pencils.

Have a great weekend. As I said on my other blog I will not manage to post tomorrow but should be back on during my time away. If you have a little spare moment, think of me and my mountains.

Large MM Abstract.

Large MM Abstract.

This painting was created using the same methods as the one I used on my blog yesterday. It seemed right to put the other one on again today.

I am not sure that it fits with the blog I have written today on my other blog and for that I apologise.

I am still struggling to come to terms with the fact that somebody I have got to know on here is off sleeping in a car and I can do little about. I also have a dear friend who is going through Chemo at present and I can do little about that either.

Another of my blogging friends is also very ill and can not paint because it is exhausting her. I can do nothing. I feel helpless.

In the meantime here I am complaining that I cannot find the inspiration to paint, seems so trivial. At the same time my health is daily increasing with the tough schedule I have set myself. I have lost 28lbs in weight running better and yesterday cycled twice as far as I had thought I could and intended.

So one day soon I will paint. I have been trying to do some drawing but it is far from good enough to show on here, after showing Barbra’s tree roots.

I have also been remiss in leaving encouraging comments on the many blogs I read every day. That I will put right .

It is these thoughts that prompted my other blog this morning.

I hope you have a good day.

The Conspirators 2

The Conspirators 2

I just could not help using this painting again today. Yes I used it not so long ago, I am aware of this. I painted just a short time before I had this painters block that I am going through just now. I still have it, it is hanging in one of the inns where I hang works for sale.

I do not think it is going to sell, but after the lesson I learned from so many of you the other day I am aware that this does not matter. MY son actually made the comment that he thought it was a great painting but not one you would hang on your wall.

It is a painting of two friends, husband and wife. They are a couple who I have never heard them say a single bad word about anybody. The title therefore is probably not the best of titles, it just seemed to fit.

They are a wealth of little good stories about other people, not the gossip type, just they always have something good to say about the most difficult of persons.

Fits well with the other blog theme this morning, I hope you agree.

I painted it using pastel. Whenever I start painting again this will be the first one I will change. I think I might even just give it to the couple. You never know they might like to hang it on their wall.

Have a great day and remember my other blog. Tell somebody today you care.

The Meeting.

The Meeting

As those who have read my other blog today will know I spent yesterday with my daughter. I love my times with her, the joyous conversations we have.

This painting is about such a meeting of two people on the coastal path near where I live. I saw two people walk towards each other on the beach, stop and share time together. My mind wondered what they were sharing.

I am not sure how many of my meditative cards would make a selection? I am not sure if this is such a great idea. The doubts are beginning to creep in.

I am sure all artists have the same thoughts about their paintings.

But this would be one painting I might use.

The Meeting

Here the shore meets the beach together they create the sound of joy.

Two people meet

In this meeting in the opportunity to share joy

To encourage the other.

To uplift the other person

Words shared in quiet moments can last forever.

Words can be healing

But word can be full of poison

and hurt.

Words can be gossip and cruel

When we speak we must speak with thought

Who might I meet today?

How will I leave the person I meet.

Will my meeting be the sound of joy?

I hope today you path crosses with another who will fill your life with joy.

Sorry jerry I cannot find a script that meets the bill on blogger. Unless somebody else knows how to.

Hands

Hands

I have used this artwork before and told the story of the owner now being a blind person. But I am still thinking of my project of a small selection of cards with meditative themes.

These cards could have the artwork on the front the small meditation guide on the inside and a blank space to either make further notes or to include a message.

I promise not to inflict too many of these on you but I have to say I am finding the feedback, from those of you who have taken the time to contact me, both interesting and inspiring.

So here is my painting of my own hands. Painted at the end of using them to work with pastel.

Hands

Are treasures to be cared for.

They can achieve much.

Bring much peace and joy.

Can reach out to brush a tear.

To sooth a bruised leg, and pride.

To offer help in times of need.

But the same hands can also cause grief and pain

They can destroy.

A simple thought, “It is all in our Hands.”

I hope today your hands are treasure both by you and those with whom you will share this day.

The Gift

Caring Hands

Yes I have used this art before but I used it here and on my other blog for two reasons today. I commented on a friends blog the other day where she had used a copy of the prying hands. She has been having a rather sad and difficult passage in life and felt this painting of the praying hands was for her a comfort.

It is good that art can do so many things. It can not only portray beauty but it can also stir deep emotions in the artist and the viewer. All those years after the praying hands were painted it still speaks to the deep inner being of a person. I am sure there is not a single artist who would not give their right hand to be able to feel that just one of our paintings would have such a lasting impression.

Anyway back to this pastel. My friend emailed me to remind me of this painting. Seems it was one of mine that in some way touched her. I did enjoy painting it and I enjoy knowing where it is hanging now.

One day I am going to do another similar one and take account of the comments of my friend as to how I can improve it.

In the meantime I use it again today, for my friend.

In my other blog I talk of a world where more and more we seem to care less and less. Just so my friend knows. I hope never to travel the road of not caring.

Painted in pastel on black pastel board after painting another pastel hence the dirty looking hands. That is another tale I have told before.
