Rain Along the Coastal Path.

Rain Along The Coastal Path.

I chose this painting on my other blog because at first reading it was a very sad story and I suppose for most of us a rainy day on a walk is a sad day also. The thing about this painting though and the story of the other blog is that things are not always as they at first seem.

This painting tries to capture the atmosphere of that day. I was so glad to be running along the coastal path because the light and the atmosphere had a sense of magic. I held that in my mind and produced two large paintings and two small ones.

One of the large ones was purchased almost instantly by a person who lives on the coast the other was claimed by my son for his new house.

The two small ones well sadly nobody seems to want to purchase at present and they hang in the local inn. They have been on my website for some time and still they are not sold.

Today I am showing you the small unsold ones on the other Blog and here the first of the large ones who knows maybe I will use the other large one another time.

All paintings were painted in acrylic and painted in one of my frenetic moods two one day and two the next while I remembered the mood and the atmosphere. I remember at the time listening to Mendelssohn’s, “Fingals Cave “ having visited there often it seemed so right for the mood.

I am beginning to feel that maybe the weekend is not a good time to be posting on the blog. I am aware that fewer people read blogs over the weekend understandably. Any comments you have on that I would be grateful.

This blog is linked to my other where you can read the story of:- A Case of Priorities

The two small paintings used or my other blog are best viewed at my website:- Seascape Paintings

  1. Ralph, this painting is truly wonderful - I am impressed you did it from memory. I would have had to take a photograph. Today in London it is overcast and drizzly and I am as snug as a bug in a rug reading through my favourite blogs, (& this is one of them) so I am delighted that you have posted on the weekend.

    Martine

  3. I think this is my favorite of all your paintings, Ralph. Unlike many, I relish the rain. For me the darker skies and the cleansing drops are just so refreshing and always go a long way in soothing the savage breast. (I think the original quote uses the word breast and not beast...but I am not positive! LOL) I love how you've got those lighter grasses as the oddly lit skies when it rains does tend to almost illuminate some of the grasses. Truly a wonderful painting and one that so well helps me to center myself and not get lost.

  6. Uplifting would describe the feeling I had on seeing this painting. I don't think there is any sadness at all ... only exuberance. The simplicity of weeds, grass and rain drops, coupled with the complimentary colours is wonderful ... 10 out of 10 Ralph !

  7. I think this is my favorite painting of yours' so far! I love the blend of colors you used, and it really does catch one of those magical times when the scenery and the weather and your own mood all work together to make a special moment in time...

  8. Hi Ralph, When I first saw this painting I thought of a good, refreshing spring rain. Now I feel the melancholy.
As for posting on weekends - yes, I've noticed it drops drastically and have wondered about it too. But I have a feeling that people still read/view weekend posts, but just on Monday. Hmm. It would be interesting to know. Wishing you a fine day.

  9. I love the colors and it does say rain but definitely not in a sad way. It is a refreshing rain. Sometimes it just takes the right person to see it. I wish I could sell every painting I do but...

  10. This is lovely, Ralph, and not a bit sad. You did a wonderful job depicting rain and through the rain, I can see the landscape in the background. Love the plants, too, the grasses and pretty yellow flowers - just a beautiful and happy piece!

  19. May I simply say what a relief to find an individual who actually understands what they're talking about on the internet. You certainly realize how to bring a problem to light and make it important. More and more people have to check this out and understand this side of your story. I can't believe you aren't more popular because you certainly have the gift.
