A Painting in Thought.

A Painting in Thought.

I have not had a minute to myself to sit down and paint or draw since the completion of the apple pastel. But that does not mean that I have not been thinking art. I had a marvellous walk during the last few days. I walked in the highlands of Scotland with my son and daughter in law.

The beauty at this time of the year is stunning. I could not help but take pictures of some of the views. I am sure I have taken the same scenes many times before but strangely enough I have never painted any of the places here, that I have walked so often.

I have added one or two to this blog just to let you see them.

I am hoping that seeing them on this blog just might inspire me to the next stage. Turing one of them into a painting.

Maybe I have so many I can never choose?

  1. Scotland is a beautiful place - I have been there many times thanks to my husbands love of fly-fishing. I can't wait to come back, this time with my paints!

  2. Ralph bonjour,
Magnifiques photos... J'aime particulièrement la seconde... Elle représente pour moi ce que j'aime chez les arbres... attachement profond à la Terre.

  4. Thank you so much for the marvellous comments. Oh Alice you need to know in Scotland we only have one LAKE the Lake of Mentieth but we have many many LOCHS and LOCHANS and this is just one of them.We do not know why we have that one lake possibly because it was named by somebody from England and it stuck.

  6. A friend of mine once said when she wasn't able to paint, she was always "arting." I believe that's as important as the actual doing. Everything comes in it's own time and pace. Lovely photos. Perhaps I'll share some of where I live ... we have many ponds, lakes, rivers and there's always the Atlantic.

  9. These are beautiful photos, Ralph. You might want to try what I do when I'm not sure what to paint... if I'm using a photo as reference... play with some creative cropping... looking around the photo and seeing some parts of it up closer while obscuring others often makes some part of it jump out and shout, "Paint me!"

  10. How fortunate you are to live so close to such majestic beauty!

Paint them all ...paint them two or three different ways. Just paint, paint and paint!
